Le capitaine à l’heure des ponts tranquilles by Gérard Gréverand

This novel was published in 2016. It’s set in the 20th century. According to one of the characters, Jack Rackham (also called Rackham le Rouge) committed several murders for petty reasons. The main character’s ancestor the Chevalier de Courtrai chased Jack Rackham near the northern coast of Africa, and a year later caught him and delivered him to the authorities. Jack is from Bristol and has a Norma Desmond style obsession with his pet chimpanzee Goumba.
