Women: The New Criminals by Richard Deming

This book was published in 1977, and includes a biographical sketch of Anne Bonny informed by Mistress of the Seas. According to Deming, she is born in 1700 to William Cormac, and grows up to be a beautiful redhead in Charleston. She marries James Bonny when she is 16, and then moves on to Chidley Bayard after murdering his previous girlfriend. She becomes captain of the Queen Royal, on which Mary Read serves. She is eligible for a pardon from Woodes Rogers, but refuses it. When Anne is 20 in 1720, her crew is drunk except for her, Mary, and one other pirate, who is killed in a boarding by the navy. After Mary dies, the public is upset, and Anne is pardoned as long as she leaves the Caribbean. She marries Carlova’s Michael Ratcliffe and they travel to Norfolk, Virginia.
